2016 has been another fantastic year at the Gareth Iwan Jones HQ. We decided to see the year out on Jurassic Park (The incredible Cofete Beach, Fuerteventura). Spending quality time with Mrs Iwan Jones. We filmed a quick Drone Selfie that sparked a lot of interest, a wondeful finish to the year. Happy New Year to you all! x
Whilst setting up a portrait and testing the lights without an assistant, I captured this self portrait in a studio in Bristol. I'm not hugely interested in self portraiture especially when it includes myself, but I like this. I do spend a lot of time with my hand glued to my phone, the image illustrates reasonably accurately my day to day existence at the moment.
Whilst shooting some commercial photography at a skate park in the South West I bumped into Max skating another section of the park. The early evening light was streaming through the large church-like windows encasing the skate park and asking Max to sit for a portrait was too hard to resist.

Mother & Baby commercial photography Bristol.
It's been a while since I've shot any personal work, I finally had an opportunity to shoot the above image last week. Inspired by a sequence in the fantastic film 'Calvary' (about Irish Catholicism) and drawing heavily from the Baroque style of humanist figure painting.
I was interested in the idea of a quiet and candid (albeit staged) portrait of a gay couple mixed in with elements of typically catholic imagery. A little finger pointing at some very antiquated and irrelevant beliefs within the Catholic Church.
