Sarah Adams | On Commission

This is Sarah Adams, mother of James Prosser who was killed in Afghanistan in 2009 while serving with the 2nd Battalion The Royal Welsh.  James was the 218th soldier to be killed in Afghanistan,.The total number of soldiers who've lost their lives fighting in Afghanistan now stands at 448.

Sarah has strongly criticised the support that the Ministry of Defence gives to bereaved families. After three years of lobbying the Ministry of Defense to improve the support given to other frontline troops and their families, Sarah was given unique permission to visit Camp Bastion, where her son had been based. Sarah was asked to report back with her own personal recommendations. This was in 2010 and she told me that all of her recommendations for change in the support system have been ignored.

At the time of his death, James who was serving on the front line, was paid just £1,260 a month, from which he paid tax, national insurance and his own life insurance.  Clearly a paltry amount for someone risking their life every day.
