Portraits of Sarah, photographed recently for a feature in an April edition of Grazia Magazine.
South West photography
An interesting morning spent photographing Grant Harold former butler and member of the Royal Household of Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales based at Highgrove House.
I'm very fond of this portrait taken towards the end of last year. It was actually shot during a break between other setups and ended up being my favourite photograph.
I photographed the Italian road bike frame builer Marco Bertoletti for Cyclist Magazine in Bristol last month.
The bespoke bike frame Marco is using as a prop in these images is an 'IL 58' model. Built using 'grade 9 titanium frame'. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but at the best part of £6000 I presume it's a very capable bike in the right hands.
Marco spoke no English and I speak no Italian, I've become very adept at communicating directions through gesticulation, although it's highly likely I appear somewhat manic to the subject.
My portrait of Novelist and screenwriter Anthony Horowitz.
Holly photographed at the Oasis Academy in Bristol. Part of a wider feature on artists in residence in UK schools.
I spent the day with the team at The Bristol Robotics Lab, photographing robots and the team for the Gatsby Foundation.
This is the very striking Ellie from Cardiff. Photographed for a feature on long term health issues.
Whilst setting up a portrait and testing the lights without an assistant, I captured this self portrait in a studio in Bristol. I'm not hugely interested in self portraiture especially when it includes myself, but I like this. I do spend a lot of time with my hand glued to my phone, the image illustrates reasonably accurately my day to day existence at the moment.
I spent a bright an sunny day in October in Plymouth with some of the University's students. We were tasked with photographing a selection of images in and around some of the independent businesses found in the city.
Whilst shooting some commercial photography at a skate park in the South West I bumped into Max skating another section of the park. The early evening light was streaming through the large church-like windows encasing the skate park and asking Max to sit for a portrait was too hard to resist.
This is Emily, pictured at her home in Salisbury. I photographed Emily for a magazine feature, profiling her as one of the winners of Price Harry's 'WellChild Awards', recognising the extraordinary courage of children who live with health challenges.
Aged eight Emily was diagnosed with an optical glioma – a rare type of cancerous brain tumour that grows in or around the optic nerve. The tumour and subsequent surgery means Emily has no more than the perception of light in her left eye and only ten per cent of sight in her right eye, leaving her with extreme tunnel vision. Despite the challenges Emily is a lively and incredibly positive person, a joy to meet and photograph.
This commission was a wonderfully interesting shoot - photographing behind the scenes at the Aston Martin production line in Warwickshire. I've seen a lot of factory floors in my photography career, but this site is particularly impressive. The Aston Martin production line stuck out for a number of reasons. Most notably, daylight balanced lighting on a factory floor... Every photographers dream.
Part of the shoot involved portraits with current CEO Andy Palmer. The tunnel (below) designed presumably to spot blemishes in paintwork made for an interesting backdrop.
A couple of portraits photographed last month that I'm really pleased with. This is Jo Hill, an actor from Bristol. Her agent got in touch asking me to create a set of interesting still imagery for her casting portfolio.
I spent an afternoon last week shooting portraits with Neil Chadwick, co-founder of the Cornish clothing company Seasalt last week. It was a beautiful day to be on the South West coast, the shoot took place at the flagship store in Falmouth. Neil's very cute dog Pepe the CockaPoo naturally featured heavily.
Whilst chatting to Neil he very casually mentioned that he'd once been photographed by the great Peruvian fashion photographer Mario Testino. Coincidentally this happened to me on a shoot the week before when I asked the subject whether they'd been photographed before, 'Oh a guy called Martin Parr took my portrait recently' came the reply. Nothing like knowing your photography idols have been here before to sharpen the focus.
